Villas in Minorca

Minorca is one of the Balearic Islands just off the east coast of Spain and is located in the warm Mediterranean Sea. This island is a very popular tourist destination, which isn't surprising giving the hospitality of the locals here. The most popular accommodation choice for discerning travellers is self-catering holiday villas. In Minorca these can generally be leased at reasonable rates if booked in advance. All villas are packed with modern amenities and many even have their own swimming pool.

The island of Minorca has been divided into 2 segments. The northern part of the island is a place of uneven, rugged coastline with little vegetation and lots of small islands with red sand. The southern part is made up of calcareous rock and has plain, wave like cliffs and coves of lovely white sand fringed with pine trees.

Minorca has a climate that is typical of the Mediterranean, which is why it is so popular with visiting tourists. Although it isn't as hot as some of the countries in the Med, it is still warm enough for the British tourists who flock there each year for a cheap week away.

Minorca is well known for its traditional summer fiestas. The main events that the island hosts are the International Organ Festival in Mahon and the summer festival of music, Capella Davidica, in Ciutadella.

Officially there are 2 languages spoken in Minorca, Catalan and Castilian Spanish. However, in the tourist areas both English and German are spoken by many of the locals.
