Head to St Dogmaels For a Scenic Cottage Holiday

If you're looking for ideas for a cottage holiday in Wales, why not head to the coastal village of St Dogmaels?

Located at the northernmost point of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Trail, St Dogmaels offers a historic setting and plenty of scope for long walks and day trips.

Its main attraction is the remains of St Dogmaels Abbey, a 12th century monastery that was among the most prosperous in Wales at its peak, but was destroyed at the command of Henry VIII in the 16th century.

Now its ruins attract tourists from all over, particularly in the summer, when a unique theatrical event takes place at the site every year.

The Abbey Shakespeare Players come to St Dogmaels every summer to stage a Shakespearean play amid the remains of the abbey.

Previous productions have included Henry IV, Romeo & Juliet, Hamlet and Antony & Cleopatra, among others - offering the perfect diversion for fans of the Bard.

Elsewhere, you can sample the local delicacies at the weekly St Dogmaels producers' market, which offers a wide array of food and drink grown or made in the area.

You can also venture to St Dogmaels Gallery for a dose of culture and see prehistoric monuments in the Preseli Hills, which are a short drive away.

There are plenty of walking trails to follow, including those that head in the direction of the nearby city of Cardigan in Ceredigion.

If you're keen to explore Pembrokeshire's other sights and activities, you will find much to see and do while using a cottage with sea views in St Dogmaels as a base from which to travel from.

The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park contains a wealth of flora and fauna sure to delight kids and adults alike, while eager walkers can attempt to travel the length of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, which is one of England and Wales's 15 national trails.

This does not necessarily have to consist of hours upon hours of walking, as a special bus service is on hand Trekker on transportation so they can return to their free time.
